JSH Leader Recognized as Outstanding Woman of Leadership in Zambia

October 8, 2021

Mika Mwambazi Bwembya, chief of party for the USAID-funded ZAM-Health Project, received the Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia’s Outstanding Woman Leadership and Mentor Award 2021.

The Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia (PSZ) Recognition of Excellence Awards is the pharmaceutical profession’s most comprehensive recognition program. Mika was nominated for and won in the Outstanding Woman Leadership and Mentor Award category. The award will be presented during PSZ’s 40th Annual Scientific Conference in Livingstone, Zambia, 7-9 October. The theme of this year’s conference is Pharmacy Professionals Leading the Health Sector Supply Chain Improvements amidst COVID-19 Pandemic and Beyond.

“This is a humbling and exciting moment of my professional life. I feel that my work and support through mentorship is appreciated,” says Mika. “I am greatly honoured to receive such a prestigious award. With it comes a responsibility to do even more. This is a result of the great support I have received from others, including JSI and JSH, and I thank you.”

Mika has been a leader and mentor throughout her career with JSH and our affiliate, JSI. Her technical leadership and diplomacy have helped expand the availability of DMPA-SC (injectable contraceptives) by fostering greater participation of the private sector in family planning.

Mika leads the five-year USAID Zambia Accessible Markets for Health (ZAM-Health) Activity, which aims to sustainably expand the availability and accessibility of high-quality health products and services in the private sector, improve health knowledge, and increase the adoption of healthy behaviours.
